ElevenLabs for YouTube Narration (2026): Which Plan Covers How Many Videos
Count on about 1,000 credits per finished minute of narration on ElevenLabs’ standard model, plus retakes. That makes Starter ($6/mo, $5/mo yearly, 30k credits) enough for about two 10-minute videos a month, and Creator ($22/mo, $18.33/mo yearly, 121k credits) about eight to ten. The free plan (10k credits) has no commercial license, so do not monetize videos narrated on it. Prices checked Oct 19, 2026.
ElevenLabs bills in credits, which makes it hard to tell what a plan buys. This memo turns credits into finished YouTube minutes so you can pick a plan by how often you publish. The full plan list is on ElevenLabs pricing.
Credits to minutes
ElevenLabs lists text-to-speech at about 1 credit per character on its standard Multilingual v2 model; faster models can cost less. Spoken narration runs about 150 words a minute, which is roughly 900–1,000 characters. So:
- 1 finished minute ≈ 1,000 credits
- 10-minute video ≈ 10,000 credits, about 12,000–13,000 with retakes on lines that sound wrong
- 60-second Short ≈ 1,000–1,300 credits
This is an order-of-magnitude guide. Model choice and settings change the burn rate, so check your usage after the first video.
Plans translated into videos (checked Oct 19, 2026)
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (per mo) | Credits | 10-min videos a month (approx.) | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 10k | Test only | No |
| Starter | $6 | $5 | 30k | ~2 | Yes |
| Creator | $22 | $18.33 | 121k | ~8–10 | Yes |
When we checked on Oct 19, ElevenLabs showed Creator’s first month at 50% off ($11); Starter showed no promotion. The table shows regular prices; see the price tracker for the changelog.
Unused credits on paid plans roll over for up to two months, as long as you stay subscribed and do not downgrade. A slow month is not wasted, but rollover does not apply to the free plan, and cancelling or downgrading forfeits the balance.
Pick by publishing schedule
- Daily Shorts only (~30 a month): about 30k–40k credits. Starter is tight; Creator if you retake often.
- One 10-minute video a week: about 50k credits. Creator.
- Two long videos a month: Starter, billed monthly until the schedule sticks.
- Long videos plus Shorts cut from them: narrate the long video once and clip it with Opus Clip; you do not pay for the voice twice.
When Murf or your own voice is better
Murf Creator (about $19/mo billed yearly) suits slide-based course narration and pronunciation-heavy scripts more than YouTube storytelling. Compare them in ElevenLabs vs Murf. If your audience is there for you, record yourself. AI narration is best for faceless formats, cold opens, and translations.
A narration workflow that saves credits
- Finish and read the script out loud before generating anything; edits after generation cost credits.
- Generate paragraph by paragraph so a bad line costs one paragraph, not the whole script.
- Fix pronunciation with spelling tweaks in the script before regenerating.
- Assemble in CapCut Free with B-roll and captions.
Final recommendation
- 1–2 long videos a month → Starter ($5–$6)
- Weekly long videos → Creator ($18.33–$22)
- Still testing voices → Free, but do not monetize it
- Your voice is the brand → record yourself

How we put this together
Plan prices, credits, promotions, rollover rules, and the commercial-license line come from elevenlabs.io/pricing, read Oct 19, 2026 CT and logged on our price tracker. Murf’s price is from the same tracker (Oct 9, 2026). The 1-credit-per-character rate is ElevenLabs’ published figure for its standard model; the minutes and videos per plan are our arithmetic at about 150 spoken words a minute. We did not benchmark voice quality for this memo. Confirm credits before you buy.
